Newman Regional Health administrators are understandable pleased to have a national survey effort underway on the hospital grounds.
KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment Tuesday was devoted to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, shortened down to N-HANES. Executive Director of Quality and Safety Ester Knobloch says this is an extension of work done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is part of ongoing work to gauge different health markers.
Knobloch says this is a “comprehensive assessment,” but if you want to be involved now, you’re too late.
Knobloch says there is a full physical involved, as well as tests for vision, hearing and dental matters. There is also a blood draw.
Diabetes program Coordinator and Clinical Dietitian Sara Patterson says this is a big project, both for specific health matters and also for overall health and wellness.
Obstetrics and Gynecology Licensed Practical Nurse Angela Birk sees the survey, along with her life experience as a cancer survivor, as highlighting preventive health.
States and hospitals are chosen annually. The effort ends Nov. 11. Data is released publicly every two years. Click here for the CDC’s information page on the NHANES survey.
