KVOE’s annual Drive for Food is Thursday, and the need for your donations is at a high level.
Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden says recent developments, notably with the federal government shutdown and the likely pause of SNAP benefits as soon as this weekend, has created a lot of concern among people in need. And concern may well be an understatement.
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Hadden says the need resembles the strain on food pantries and other emergency service agencies last seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
KVOE is taking addresses for pickups Thursday morning to benefit the Salvation Army food pantry, Emporia High’s Spartan Stop and Emporia State University’s annual “Can the Bods” effort competing against Washburn University. Pickups begin shortly after the KVOE Morning Show, or around 9 am.
To give us your address, call KVOE at 620-342-1400, email hartere@kvoe.com or message the KVOE Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply text line at 620-342-5863. Several Emporia schools are organizing their connected drives, and there are several drop-off points across Emporia in case that’s a better option for you:
