Emporia native and Emporia State graduate Dr Muhammad Nashatizadeh took attendees of the Sam and Jeannene Hayes Lecture “From Neurons to Networks” on Wednesday.
The subtext of Dr Nashatizadeh’s talk was “Learning, Leading and Helping Others.” He says that approach applies every day in his work.
Since graduating in 1998 from Emporia State with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Dr Nashatizadeh has developed a career as a neurologist, neurohospitalist, movement disorder specialist and a clinical associate professor with the University of Kansas Health System and School of Medicine. Nashatizadeh has been effusive in his praise for Emporia State in helping to form him as an adult, and he encourages prospective college students to make the jump — whether right out of high school or later on.
The Hayes Lecture was established in 2011 and is now one of the featured components of Emporia State’s annual Homecoming activities:
*Thursday features the Student Alumni Board tricycle races at 7 pm at Wilson Park before the bonfire and Hornet Rally at the park at 8 pm.
*Friday has the start of the Phi Delta Theta Pole Sit fundraiser for SOS, the Athletics Hall of Honor Lunch at 1 pm at the Memorial Union KSTC Ballroom and the Black and Gold Gala starting at 5:30 pm at the Memorial Union Webb Hall.
