Emporia is among nine cities in Kansas participating in this year’s Special Olympics Polar Plunge.
The local Plunge is Feb. 21. Currently, a location hasn’t been announced, but the event has been at Mouse Lake since its inception nearly 20 years ago. This will be the 18th Plunge in Emporia.
The concept is simple: garner donations, whether as an individual or team, and then take a quick dip into frigid waters. Proceeds from the Plunge benefit the Special Olympics State Games in Wichita every June. Proceeds from local connected activities have gone to local Special Olympics activities.
More information is available at plungeks.org. Hutchinson, Kansas City, Lawrence, Maize, Manhattan, Pittsburg, Salina and Topeka also have Plunge activities this upcoming winter.
