Osage City played a marathon first set in their third match but couldn’t win a set in Pool II at the 3A State Volleyball Tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena and went 0-3 Thursday to be eliminated from the tournament. The Indians had a sluggish start falling in their first match 25-13, 25-22 to Riverton. They had to rebound quickly and lost their next match 25-19, 25-16 to Hoisington. Osage City lost a heartbreaker first set and couldn’t respond in the second in their final match falling 35-33, 25-19 to Holton to wrap up the season. Top seed Silver Lake went 3-0 and will face Hoisington while Holton meets Wichita Trinity Academy in the semifinals Saturday.
In the 1A DII tournament at White Auditorium in Emporia, top seed Marais des Cygnes Valley went 1-2 and was eliminated on Friday. The Trojans lost a tight match to Axtell 25-27, 26-24, 25-21 before being unable to slow down Hanover in the third set of their second match losing 21-25, 25-20, 25-11 to the Wildcats. MdCV did get on the board with a 25-23, 27-25 sweep of Victoria in the last match of the day. Hanover meets Ingalls while Linn plays Axtell in the semifinals Saturday with action across the state beginning at 9:00 a.m.
