Two Lyon County departments have some notable operations changes effective Monday.
The Treasurer’s Office has a notable change effective 4 pm every work day, according to Treasurer Sharon Gaede,
Gaede says it works better to end card payments after 4 pm rather than ending cash, check or money order payments at that time.
A similar timing change is now in effect for the Motor Vehicle Office, specifically for vehicle titles.
The underlying reason for these moves? Cost reduction.
These changes are until further notice.
Gaede says tax statements will have a completely different look with a new vendor handling that paperwork, including a new QR code feature so residents can go directly to the Treasurer’s Office online payment page.
These changes are until further notice. Meanwhile, the Treasurer’s Office is not accepting over-the-phone tax payments through the rest of this year because of busy end-of-year traffic.
Residents with questions can call 620-341-3255. More information is available at the Lyon County government website, lyoncountyks.gov. Residents can also pay taxes in person, by using the County Courthouse drop box or by mailing documents and payments to Lyon County Treasurer at Post Office Box 747 in Emporia.
