Facility enhancements and improvements are coming for the Emporia City Commission on Wednesday.
During the consent agenda, where several items can be addressed with one vote, commissioners may approve a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce for significant improvements to the DeBauge Family Sports Complex. The grant is set to combine with $1.5 million from the Emporia Recreation Commission and another $1.5 million from Stormont Vail Health, but it is half of what the city had requested from the state. How this adjusts initial plans for a new grass soccer field, upgrading an existing grass field to turf, parking improvements and the additions of concessions, bathrooms, seating and storage has not been announced.
Commissioners may also approve a drawdown of nearly $170,000 in Lake Kahola funds for renovating the Fremont Park bandstand.
Action session items include adopting a policy on legal reviews of “complex or ambiguous matters,” a Kansas Forest Service grant for city tree removals and appointments to the Emporia/Lyon County Joint Traffic Safety Committee and the Community Housing Board/Land Bank.
For the study meeting, the commission will discuss zoo events and brick street paving policies.
The action meeting begins at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at City Conference Room 1AB.
