If you have never had a loved one go through hospice care, the impacts and processes can be hard to understand, according to Hand in Hand Hospice Community Liaison Erin Reece.
That’s where the month of November, also known as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, comes into play, offering an opportunity to educate residents on the important role hospice plays at the end of one’s life. Reece says it also helps to dispel some misunderstandings that individuals may have regarding hospice, namely the misconception that “Hospice means automatic death.”
In addition to providing quality care for patients and families, Reece says Hand in Hand staff, namely social workers, also assist by “Meeting patients and families wherever they are at” in their respective journeys.
During her interview on KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment Monday morning, Reece noted that Hand in Hand is one of only 3 five-star hospice facilities in the state of Kansas, an honor she credited directly to the hard work and dedication of their employees.
At this time, Hand in Hand is in the middle of its annual Remembrance Tree drive, where residents can purchase an ornament in honor of a departed loved one. Reece says the ornaments cost $20 and do not have to be only for recently deceased loved ones, but for any individual one would like to honor and recognize.
For more information on how to order an ornament or on the work done by Hand in Hand visit hihhospice.org or find Hand in Hand Hospice on Facebook.
