Recent funding of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program has prompted the city of Emporia to end a short pause of utility shutoffs.
Communications Manager Christine Torrens says shutoffs will resume this upcoming Monday. Disconnect fees were waived during the temporary suspension. Late fees may still apply for customers as shutoffs resume.
Payment plans were encouraged when the shutoff pause was announced earlier this month. Torrens says payment plans are still an option for keeping accounts current. Residents considering payment plans are asked to visit the Utility Billing Office, 104 East Fifth, call 620-343-4244 or email utilities@emporiaks.gov.
