As work continues on Kansas Highway 99 south of Emporia, the Kansas Department of Transportation has approved contracts for highway improvements north of the city.
Late last month, KDOT approved three different contracts to Pearson Construction of Wichita, including:
*Almost $2.1 million to handle milling and overlay work from the Interstate 35 merchant street exit north to the K-99 junction with K-170, or almost 11 miles of work
*Over $920,000 for milling and overlay between the Kansas Highway 99 junction with US Highway 56 and the Lyon-Wabaunsee county line, an estimated distance of 6.1 miles
*Over $1.25 million for milling and overlay between the Lyon-Wabaunsee county line and the junction of K-99 and K-4, or almost nine miles of work
Meanwhile, about a third of the overlay work is done between the Lyon-Greenwood county line and Emporia as part of a separate paving project. KDOT engineer Steve Baalman says work is moving northwards and is to Olpe.
