USD 253 Emporia is calling in “Another pair of eyes” as it looks to increase efficiency within its business offices.
As part of their regular meeting agenda, USD 253 Board of Education members voted unanimously to approve a request for proposal to bring Dr. Kellen Adams, an experienced superintendent and professor of educational leadership who acts as a consultant specializing in school finance, business operations and system efficiency, to conduct a comprehensive review of the district’s business department. Dr. Adams will be responsible for identifying key areas of improvement through discussion and assessment alongside district staff.
The reason for the consultation, according to USD 253 Superintendent Dr. David McGehee, is that there have been some notable areas of needed improvement identified in recent months.
McGehee says none of the deficiencies identified in recent months have been detrimental to district staff or students; however, the district must be as efficient and “Responsible with taxpayer dollars” as possible.
The study will cost the district just over $4,200 and is expected to take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete, depending on scheduling availability, with initial planning and document reviews to be completed by November 21st.
In separate business Wednesday night, board members conducted a “data dive” on state assessment and FastBridge testing data. The data dive mirrored conversations amongst building leadership on the same topic and is meant to ensure the entire district, from administration to building leadership, is all on the same page as to how students are performing and how they can best capitalize on success or improve student results.
