The Emporia State basketball team picked up their first win of the season 77-61 over St. Cloud State in the Hillyard Classic at the MWSU Fieldhouse in St. Joseph, Mo. on Saturday. ESU busted the game open with a 10-0 run to lead 20-10 in the first half. ESU gradually extended the lead to 37-21 at the half. Each team scored 40 points in the second half. The Huskies gradually got it down to 11 with just under nine to play then used an 13-4 run to cut it to two with just over four minutes to play, but the Hornets responded with a 17-3 run to end the game. Dallas Bear lead the Hornets with 19 points on 5-for-12 shooting from outside the arc while Andrew Pengel added 19 points of his own while hitting four 3-pointers. Chris Harris grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with 10 points for a double-double. ESU (1-1) is home for the first time this year on Wednesday facing William Jewell at 7:00 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on Mix 104.9.
