Emporia came close to record high temperatures for two straight days to close out last week.
The Municipal Airport got to 75 degrees Friday, matching the daily record high most recently recorded in 2020 but also noted in 1971 and 1956. The airport then got to 75 again Saturday, just short of the ongoing record of 77 degrees set in 1950.
Average daily high temperatures are in the mid-50s now, and those are in the forecast for late this week. In between now and then, high temperatures will be in the 60s. Rain re-enters the forecast Wednesday night, mostly with moderate to good chances of showers through Friday afternoon — but also including some thunderstorm chances early Thursday.
