Add Rural to the list of Emporia’s residential streets either affected now by the ongoing Southeast Transmission waterline replacement project or soon to be impacted.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says Rural will be closed at Seventh starting Wednesday. The intersection could be closed for up to three weeks. There will also be a waterline tie-in on Thursday, which could affect water service nearby.
The Southeast waterline project has been active since June, eventually going from 12th and Garfield to South and Carter. Much of the northwest zone has been cleared and returned to normal traffic, but there are full intersections on Seventh at Walnut, Washington, West and Neosho, along with partial closures along Seventh from Walnut east to Neosho and on Neosho from Seventh to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks.
Overall work could take another year to complete.
