A bridge over a federal highway near Melvern has to be closed for the foreseeable future after an over-height load incident Wednesday.
The Osage County Sheriff’s Office says the South Morrill Road Bridge over US Highway 75 has to be closed until further notice. An excavator hauled on a trailer punctured a hole through the bridge deck and the road surface above. The driver of the hauling semi, 46-year-old Jason Simbro of Kansas City, Missouri, was taken to Stormont-Vail Health in Topeka with suspected minor injuries.
The incident site is about a mile south of the Melvern Lake Marina and about 10 miles west-southwest of Melvern.
