Next week, the ESB Financial Holiday Plaza officially opens to the public.
The ice rink and related amenities at 923 Commercial had its official ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, bringing a big smile to Visit Emporia Interim Director Matt Fowler. Visit Emporia, the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and ESB Financial partnered to bring the ice rink to downtown Emporia, and Fowler says it’s exciting to see the reaction since it was announced in early October.
ESB Financial President Michael Black says the bank’s involvement is a great way to launch its 125th anniversary year of celebration.
Fowler says ESB Financial’s presence is indicative of a strong partnership base in general.
Fowler sees the rink as being a a major attraction during the winter months.
Black Friday is the official opening day. Cost will be $8 for adults and $5 for children, including skate rentals. Hours will be 5-8 pm Thursdays and Fridays and 10 am to 8 pm Saturdays and Sundays. Food trucks and a photo booth will be on site, with other attractions like reindeer, a petting zoo, Santa Claus and others to come before the rink is dismantled in mid-January.
