Groceries have been grabbed as part of a unique fundraiser.
The annual Grocery Grab took place at Good’s Cash Saver on Saturday, with Harlie Wellnitz, the daughter of Rotary Club of Emporia member Jacque Wellnitz, winning the chance to sprint through the store and snag as many groceries as possible in a five-minute span. Harlie Wellnitz took home almost $1,000 worth of groceries.
Jacque Wellnitz was a proud mom afterward.
Jacque Wellnitz says the Grab is a great community event.
The lists of desired items for Harlie Wellnitz and Jacque Wellnitz were, well, different. Jacque Wellnitz was requesting coffee, jerky, meat, frozen food and seafood. Harlie Wellnitz came home with most of those items, but she admitted missing the coffee and Seafood. Something else she took home? A lot of Little Debbie snack cakes.
The Rotary Club of Emporia organized the Grab again this year, in partnership with Good’s Cash Saver. Club President Karly Witte says the event embodies the holidays in several ways.
Witte is glad to be part of the fundraiser, in part because it’s unique.
Proceeds benefit Bloom House Youth Services. Executive Director Carolee Conway says the Rotary Club’s support means “everything” for Bloom House.
Director of Services and Mental Health Abby Stephens says the funds will be a big help as the holiday season begins, whether through finishing out a fundraiser to upgrade the facility’s sprinkler system or immediate operations, including food and supplies.
Finalists also included Brooklyn Ewing, Andrea Wolford and the Flint Hills Technical College Wrangler Ranch.
