The congregation of Emporia’s Messiah Lutheran Church welcomed the community to its annual Harvest Home Festival and Benefit on Saturday.
The Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building was full of items, including homemade noodles, pies, breads, jams and jellies — and that was before you got to the biscuits and gravy breakfast and silent auction. Interim Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier says the event is “another way to share the Gospel with people.”
Initially, Harvest Home had another purpose — raising funds for a new fellowship hall — before evolving into its current format, setting aside some proceeds to help charitable groups in and around Emporia. Tegtmeier says it’s an evolution that makes sense.
Beneficiaries this year include Paws for Addi, as well as Radical Life and Lutheran Seminary for the Missouri Synod. Totals will be announced Sunday.
