Emporia’s House of Morrow has a new fundraiser coming up early next month.
The local non-profit will be hosting “Drag is Art” at the Emporia Granada Theatre on Friday, December 5th. The drag show will feature performers from both the local area as well as from Kansas City and Wichita and will be hosted by Emporia native and Ru-Paul’s Drag Race contestant Q.
The event will begin at 8 pm that evening following the monthly First Friday Artwalk in downtown Emporia. House of Morrow Board Member Linzi Garcia says it is a fitting time to hold the event, as drag performers are artists in their own right.
House of Morrow Founder and Director Deon Morrow adds that the event falls in line with the non-profit’s philosophy of creating spaces for all people, especially those whose voices may not always be heard as others.
Tickets for the show are currently on sale with two options available, according to Nadia Qureshi of House of Morrow.
For those who purchase a VIP ticket, doors will open at 7 pm the night of the show. For all others, doors will open at 7:30 pm.
All proceeds from the event will go to support programming through House of Morrow. For more information, visit Houseofmorrow.org or find House of Morrow on social media.
Volunteers are still needed for the event, with organisers hoping for at least 30. If you are interested in volunteering, you can find an application on the House of Morrow website or its various social media channels.
