With Thanksgiving this week, Emporia city commissioners are adjusting their meeting schedule for this week.
Commissioners are meeting Tuesday morning instead of Wednesday morning. The action meeting agenda includes a ordinance to amend zoning at 315 South Market, the former home of Kansas Avenue School, from Civic/Public to Multi-Family as Frontier Development Group works to convert the space from school building into an apartment complex. Appointments to the Homelessness Advisory Board and Transient Guest Tax Advisory Board are planned, along with a nearly $230,000 bid approval for a lift station.
The consent agenda, where several items can be addressed and handled with one vote, includes purchases of a defibrillator, mechanical CPR devices and power cots, as well as an ordinance amending a State Revolving Loan Fund and a sidewalk easement acceptance for the upcoming City Connecting Link work along Kansas Highway 99 from Soden’s Road to Kansas Avenue.
Study meeting topics include discussions about mobile food vendor licensing and the Fats, Oils and Grease or FOG program.
The action meeting is at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1AB.
Meanwhile, the city has sent some homeowners information about lead in their water lines. Public Works Director Dean Grant says this involves service lines, not water mains.
Public Works is into the second year of this Environmental Protection Agency project under the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. The city has partnered with 120Water to make sure Emporia is in compliance with federal standards and offers safe, clean drinking water.
Anybody with lead in their service lines should have recently received a letter from the city, which is working to develop a “more accurate and detailed inventory” of its water service items.
