Now that the indoor pool has reopened for patrons at the Lee Beran Recreation Center, there could still be some work ahead.
During KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment Monday, Rec Commission Director Amanda Gutierrez said there is a partnership with BG Consultants to figure out what other work may be needed.
Gutierrez says much of the upcoming inspection process, if not all of it, will look at ongoing leakage.
The scope of the daily leakage? Well, that varies.
The better-than-40-year-old pool has had several significant repair projects over the last decade, the most recent of which closed the pool from Nov. 12 to Monday morning. A 6-inch, 90-foot-long cast iron pipe developed a roughly 1-inch-wide crack up and down the entire length of the pipe. Plumbing by Spellman installed a special lining to seal the pipe and get the pool ready to reopen to the public. Classes using the pool were moved elsewhere inside the Rec Center while the pool was closed.
BG Consultants will have an initial report as part of the Rec Commission’s next meeting Dec. 15.
6:15 am Monday:
The pool has reopened inside the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
The natatorium was closed since Nov. 12 so crews from Plumbing by Spellman could repair a crack along a 6-inch, 90-foot-long pipe. Crews used a special liner to seal the pipe and prepare for the reopening. All classes typically held inside the pool and moved to other parts of the Rec Center are resuming on their regular schedule as of 6 am Monday.
Rec Commission Director Amanda Gutierrez will have an update on plans to research possible additional issues with the pool during KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment at 8:40 am Monday.
