In a matter of minutes last week, Lyon County History Center Director Greg Jordan got two complete surprises.
First, thanks to his wife and History Center Deputy Director, Lisa Soller, Jordan was given the Kansas Museums Association Distinguished Service Award. Second, he got a standing ovation from fellow historians and museum professionals at last week’s annual convention.
One of the things that surprised Jordan most was the recognition coming from his peers in the field.
Jordan thanked Soller for the nomination. For her part, Soller says she had wanted to submit the nomination for at least two years, but life got in the way. As she put it, “I talked him up — but it’s all true.”
Soller says Jordan is “the KMA cheerleader the KMA didn’t even know it had.”
Jordan says his membership in KMA has been fruitful, both for his career and for the Lyon County History Center.
The Museums Association had its first annual meeting in 1969 and has been focused on increasing knowledge about “the museum field,” as well as fostering collaboration between museums and those interested in history.
Jordan and Soller are the guests on KVOE’s On-Air Chat at 11:06 am Wednesday.
