Over 24 hours after a fatal crash at the Kansas Turnpike Emporia exit, several details have not yet been revealed.
A semi crashed at the southbound onramp around 12:15 am Monday. Troopers have said the driver was going too fast and sent the semi into the west-side ditch, where it hit three posts and eventually overturned. Emporia Fire took took the driver to Newman Regional Health, where he passed away.
5:40 am Monday:
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatality crash on the Kansas Turnpike’s southbound onramp at Emporia.
Troopers say the crash happened shortly after midnight at mile marker 127. The early crash log indicates a semi was southbound and “failed to use caution,” going too fast on the onramp before leaving the ramp and going into west-side ditch. The truck hit three posts and overturned.
Emporia Fire took took the driver to Newman Regional Health, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Additional details are pending. The ramp was either totally or partially blocked for several hours afterward.
