The city of Emporia is asking residents to do their part to keep pipes flowing freely this Thanksgiving holiday.
The city says fats, oils and grease — shortened down to FOG — are an “unwelcome” part of many favorite holiday foods, adding small amounts of FOG can eventually cause blockages and backups in sewer mains or even your own home.
To avoid any FOG-related fails, the city suggests pouring leftover drippings, gravy, oils or melted butter in a special container, freezing it and throwing out the substance once it has hardened. Peels, crusts and skins should be composted if possible or thrown away. As a last step, wipe out pots and pans to dispose of any remaining grease.
