A popular Emporia restaurant is closing, but owners have plans to keep serving the community through another culinary model.
Owners of Union Street Social posted Saturday the last day of the restaurant’s service to patrons will be Dec. 21. Owners also say they are working on a new, “exciting and challenging endeavor” as they have developed Plainspoken All Day Kitchen, set to open this upcoming spring in the Gazette Collective building — the former home of the Emporia Gazette at 518 Merchant.
Union Street Social has branded itself as a Midwestern-style supper club with a full cocktail bar, building on other restaurants like Eat Your Vegetables Cafe, Ad Astra Food and Drink and the Surly Mermaid food truck. The plan for Plainspoken is to “offer a place that is affordable, cozy, and accessible for everyone” from morning to night.
Patrons with Union Street Social gift cards can use those through Dec. 21. Residents wanting to eat at Union Street are encouraged to make reservations.
