Emporia girls basketball scored the first six points of the game as they never trailed Tuesday in their win over Wichita North, 56-19, in Emporia. A sloppy first quarter saw the black and red come out on front 10-4. The Lady Spartans grew the advantage to 13 at the break, 24-11. Emporia won the third, 18-8 and surrendered no points in the fourth in the victory.
Kaylee DeWitt had a game high 12 points. Maycee Davis and Harley Smith each added nine. Assistant coach Brett Stewart is excited to have DeWitt and Smith on the team after not playing organized basketball the last few years.
The Lady Spartans open the year 1-0.
Rylan Crowell poured in 20 points and propelled Emporia to a 79-32 win over Wichita North Tuesday in Emporia. The Spartans never trailed as they opened on a 7-0 run and followed it up with a 14-0 stretch on their way to a 28-8 lead at the end of one. EHS continued the full court pressure on their way to being up 53-16 after 16 minutes. The advantage grew to 52 in the third.
Crowell credits the energy from his teammates and the crowd for the strong performance.
Head coach Evan Burns attributes the preparation for the great start.
He loved the effort he saw for all 32 minutes.
Harry Trelc, 18, and Terrick Franklin, ten, each scored in double figures.
The Spartans improve to 1-0.
Emporia will host Lansing on Friday. KVOE will have the girl/boy doubleheader at 5:45 p.m.
