With the Green Machine Gala fundraiser on the schedule, early work continues at a good clip on the Olpe Fitness Park project.
KVOE News had updates on both aspects of the overall project on the Thursday Newsmaker segment. Wade Schmidt says there was a longstanding collective effort to reach this point.
Schmidt says Phase 1 could be done by late spring or early summer, ahead of prior estimates putting the end of construction near the start of classes in August.
While construction is underway on Phase 1 — mainly revolving around a new football stadium, including an eight-lane track, bleachers and a press box, along with the start of a new fitness trail — fundraising is well into Phase 2 for a splash pad, new multipurpose building and a new concessions area. And that means emphasis on the Green Machine Gala at Olpe’s Knights of Columbus Hall on Valentine’s Day. Jodi Brinkman says the event will, once again, feature cocktails, a silent auction, steak dinner, live auction and a dance. The auctions have several highlights.
Tickets are $100 each and the event typically sells out. Residents can get tickets by emailing greenmachinegala@gmail.com.
