Processes continue as the Emporia State Presidential Search Committee and Kansas Board of Regents look for the university’s next leader.
Semi-final candidate interviews have now moved to Kansas City, beginning Wednesday and continuing Thursday.
The search process began shortly after current president Ken Hush announced his retirement this past July, following time as interim president beginning in 2021 and then an appointment as permanent president in June 2022 after prior president Allison Garrett left Emporia to become the chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Education. Committee Chair Jim Kessler has said the university needs a well-rounded leader to continue the direction Hush has set over the last four years.
In addition to the work of the Search Committee, the Board of Regents has used the external consulting firm CBIZ (SEE-bizz) as the search has continued.
The stated goal has been to have a new president named this month, with Regents handling the finalist interviews. Kessler tells KVOE News the timeline is currently on track as announced earlier. Hush has said he plans to end his tenure within the next two weeks.
