The Emporia State track and field teams begin the indoor track and field season this weekend. The MIAA released their preseason rankings on Thursday and the Hornet men are slotted sixth while the Lady Hornets are tied for ninth. Pittsburg State was the unanimous choice to win the league in both polls with the Washburn women and Missouri Southern men picking up the other first place votes. The Hornets were fifth in last year’s MIAA Indoor Championships and return 55 of the 57 points they scored in the meet including defending heptathlon champion Jonah Remsburg. The Lady Hornets will welcome back Mele Taula from a medical redshirt in 2025-26. She previously won the indoor women’s shot put title as a freshman in the 2023-24 season. ESU starts the season Saturday at the Washburn Alumni Invitational.
