The Lady Spartans exploded for 26 first quarter points as they coasted to a 60-9 win over Lansing Friday in Emporia.
EHS opened on a 12-2 run as they never trailed. A 14-1 run ended the first quarter as the Lady Spartans took a 26-3 advantage. The Emporia defense forced 20 first half turnovers on their way to a 42-5 half lead. EHS led 53-8 at the end of the third.
Maycee Davis had a team high 19 points while Kaylee DeWitt added 14. Bill Nienstedt talked to Davis about being more aggressive.
The Lady Spartans improve to 2-0. They return to action Tuesday in the Paul Terry Classic against Spring Hill.
Two late Tanner Seidl free throws gave Emporia the 45-44 win over Lansing Friday in Emporia.
A back and forth first quarter saw Emporia lead 8-6. Emporia trailed 14-13 until they found an 11-0 run midway through the second to take a 25-19 advantage at half. Harry Trelc beat the buzzer to end the third as EHS brought a three point lead into the fourth. A back and forth final quarter went down to the wire. Lansing’s Mehki Stephens hit a go ahead layup with 30 seconds to go. The Spartans tried to hold for the final shot as Seidl drew a foul with 4.8 seconds to play.
A Stephens’ three at the buzzer fell short for the Spartan win.
After scoring 79 on Tuesday the offense was held to 45 points. Evan Burns says that’s basketball.
Rylan Crowell had a team high 13. Trelc and Seidl each chipped in 11.
The win moves Emporia to 2-0. They return to action Tuesday in the Paul Terry Classic against Spring Hill.
