Two people were hurt and hospitalized after a crash on the Kansas Turnpike near the Lyon-Chase county line early Tuesday.
The crash happened at mile marker 116.1, about three miles southwest of the county line and 11 miles southwest of the Emporia tollgate, around 6 am. The Kansas Highway Patrol says both vehicles involved in the wreck were southbound. A pickup driven by 36-year-old Brandon Massey of Topeka tried to pass a car driven by 34-year-old Bianca Blakney of Sioux City, Iowa. Massey lost control of his truck, hitting Blakney’s car and forcing the car into a guardrail.
Massey was not hurt. Blakney and a passenger, 33-year-old Jaquillah Johnson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, both suffered possible injuries and were taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment. All three were wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck.
