Criminal court proceedings are underway for an Illinois man accused of leading a foot chase after an alleged check fraud incident in Council Grove.
Max Barnes Jr faces single counts of forgery, identity fraud, attempted theft of property or services and interference with law enforcement after an alleged incident Dec. 2.
Council Grove Police Chief Shawn Wangerin says officers responded to Citizens Bank for a potential fraud incident. Barnes allegedly fled, triggering a chase and what Wangerin calls an “extensive search” ending with Barnes’ discovery in a tree line near Council Grove Life Center.
Barnes’ preliminary hearing is Dec. 18.
