Various aspects of the cattle industry will be addressed in a special seminar in Emporia next week.
Tuesday will see “Building Better Herds: Calving, Bulls and Pasture Planning” at the Bowyer Community Building. Lyon County Extension Ag Agent Brian Rees says the event is designed to help ranchers be more profitable.
Rees says this seminar comes at a time when ranchers are being forced to decide whether to maintain or increase their herd sizes, depending on economic factors. This is designed to help ranchers who decide either way.
Registration starts at 9:30 am. Presentations go from 10 am to 2 pm, including body condition scoring, nutrition, calving processes and equipment, a bull management panel discussion and range management. Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition Dr KC Olson and K-State Range Extension Specialist Molly Reichenborn are among the featured presenters for the range management discussion.
Registration ends at the close of business Friday. Ranchers with questions or who want to register can call Lyon County Extension at 620-341-3220. Cost is $10 and is payable at the door.
