The 2025 Paul Terry Classic is in the books and the Emporia boys took home the plaque for a fourth straight year.
Terrick Franklin exploded for 27 points as EHS topped Hayden 57-51 in Emporia on Saturday.
Both clubs battled on tired legs in the first as Emporia held an 8-6 lead. The black and red grew their advantage to 30-15 at the break. The Wildcats won the final two quarters. Cutting the score to 44-32 to start the fourth.
It was special for Franklin to have a career day during the classic.
Head Coach Evan Burns wasn’t worried with the slow offensive start.
Chase Harrington added 11, while Harry Trelc had ten.
Burns loved what he saw from the the big guys.
Emporia moves to 5-0. They will host Great Bend on Tuesday.
Emporia girls fell to Hayden, who claimed the Paul Terry Classic crown, on Saturday 52-20 in Emporia.
Hayden showed why they are ranked third in the 4A polls outscoring EHS 17-4 in the first. The advantage grew to 17 at half 26-11. The lady Spartans couldn’t score in the third, 38-11.
Kaylee DeWitt had a team high six and Maycee Davis added five.
The loss drops the black and red to 2-3. They return to action at 6 pm on Tuesday against Great Bend.
