For the 42nd consecutive year, residents of Delane, Diane, Darlene, Arrowhead and Hillcrest Drives welcomed residents to their neighborhood to ensure everyone, regardless of means or situation, can look forward to a happy holiday.
The 42nd annual Neighborhood Toy Drive saw an impressive line of vehicles stretching across the neighborhood dropping off donations of new, unopened toys, financial contributions and bikes, which were collected by neighborhood residents who were once again joined by Santa Claus. Lead organizer Fred Seron spoke with KVOE News during the drive, saying when he and his wife Lori, moved to the neighborhood two years ago, they knew they wanted to be involved with the local holiday tradition.
Seron says the drive is a great reminder that whenever you have the means or opportunity to step up and serve others, you should take it. He adds that he hopes the charitable event will inspire others to embrace kindness and generosity year-round, noting that there is no gesture too large or too small so long as it comes from the heart.
Donations from the drive will go to benefit both SOS and the Salvation Army of Emporia once again this year. Seron says they are proud to be able to assist multiple agencies each year, noting that it takes a village to truly serve a community.
Collection totals from the drive are currently pending. All toy donations will go to the Salvation Army, with monetary donations being given to SOS.
