Newman Regional Health and Coffey Health System have reached an agreement on shared services between the hospital systems.
Administrators of both hospitals say the new agreement is designed to ensure the long-term viability of local health care in rural settings by expanding access and augmenting clinical quality. The new agreement starts with extending clinical knowledge in general surgery before expanding into specialty coverage, specifically with orthopedics returning to Coffey County — building on Newman Regional’s now-longstanding partnership with LMH Health OrthoKansas. Details about scheduling and other related matters have not been released.
“This is about doing what is right for patients—leveraging each organization’s strengths, aligning resources, and making specialty care more accessible for families throughout our region,” Newman Regional CEO Cathy Pimple says. “Newman Regional Health and Coffey Health System share the same values, the same commitment to our communities, and the same dedication to rural healthcare.”
Stacy Augustyn, chief executive officer of Coffey Health System, says: “Shared services provide a sustainable framework for expanding access, stabilizing rural workforce needs, and improving financial viability—all while preserving the local identity and autonomy of each hospital…As two independent community hospitals, we walk the fine line of being fiscally responsible and meeting our patients’ essential needs. With this new agreement, both facilities continue to serve our patients—all while conserving resources that can ultimately go into additional services.”
