The city of Emporia recently played host to more than 100 city leaders from across the nation.
Emporia was the site of the 2025 Kansas Association of City/County Management (KACM) conference, December 3rd through the 5th, giving leaders a first-hand look at the local community and all it has to offer. City Manager Trey Cocking, during the monthly Q&A with Trey on KVOE Tuesday, says it was a tremendous opportunity that led to rave reviews.
Cocking says his only wish is that the entire community could have had the opportunity to see Emporia through their eyes.
Cocking says opportunities to network with other leaders from across the country bring several long-term benefits, including perspective on how to overcome challenges that might be new to your community, but are a thing of the past for others.
Cocking also called the conference an opportunity for reinvigoration for himself and other city leadership, noting that many times we can get stuck in wishing we had something more and often lose sight of the unique things we already have.
The Kansas Association of City/County Management was founded in 1951 and comprises local government officials who work cooperatively to support and promote professional management and high ethical standards for city and county government across the state. While the conference was mainly attended by leaders from across Kansas, there were representatives from several other states including New York, California, Connecticut and more.
