It appears the decision to make the 20th Symphony in the Flint Hills concert the final one was the next-to-last chapter for the Symphony in the Flint Hills as an organization.
The final chapter apparently closed earlier this month as the organization granted its remaining funds to the Flint Hills Discovery Foundation, Pioneer Bluffs, Tallgrass Legacy Alliance and Volland, a Place for Art and Community. Totals have not been announced.
The board sold its building and all its remaining assets to transition its positive impact to other groups as it winds down. Part of that transition effort has also included preserving the event’s history, and the Symphony in the Flint Hills board has partnered with the Chapman Center for Rural Studies at Kansas State University for website and archive preservation. The Kansas State Historical Society will oversee unspecified historical documents and materials.
Earlier this year, the Symphony in the Flint Hills board donated its nearly-new warehouse to USD 284 Chase County.
