Payments could be heading out to farmers in the USDA’s recently-announced Farmer Bridge Assistance Program as soon as February.
State Director for Kansas FSA David Schemm, a guest on KVOE’s 12:05 pm newscast Thursday, says there is an associated deadline Friday — but the acreage reporting information shouldn’t affect most farmers.
Schemm says there has been a lot of interest in the program since it was announced.
The program is offering one-time payments to row crop farmers to offset a range of issues, including market losses, increased input costs and increased inflation as part of a $12 billion overall package. Schemm says most of the issues addressed by the Bridge program developed under the Biden administration.
Schemm says any tariff-related impacts have to do with other potential trading partners essentially not playing fair with the US.
Schemm also says this is designed to help farmers until more relief comes next year.
Residents needing more information can go online to farmers.gov or stop by the FSA office at 3020 West 18th.
