One person has died after fire destroyed a mobile home in east Emporia on Tuesday.
Emporia Fire responded quickly to 801 Clark Lot 5 shortly after 3:30 pm and contained the blaze quickly, but Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the west half of the structure was already heavily involved in flames when crews arrived and “heavy fire” was found throughout the home as they began to put the fire out. Significant portions of the north and south walls were burned through or demolished as part of the firefighting effort.
A vehicle nearby and some tires near the north wall were also involved.
One person was found inside the home as part of the primary search. That person’s name is not being released at this time.
Conley says Emporia Fire and Emporia Police are involved with “incident investigation.” At this time, a cause and origination point have not been determined. Evergy and Kansas Gas were also on scene for utility matters at and near the home.
