Funeral services have been announced for one-time Emporia business co-owner Ken Martell, who passed away earlier this week after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Onaga, Martell graduated from St Mary’s High School before attending Emporia Kansas State College, now known as Emporia State University, from 1974-1976. He then worked at Burnap Brothers, ultimately retiring in 2021 as part-owner and office manager. Martell also kept stats for Emporia State football home and basketball games, as well as state championship events as sponsored by the Emporia Recreation Commission and Emporia Sports Promotion Inc. Martell was also active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia and St Therese Church in Kansas City after moving in 2023.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, Missouri, followed immediately by a Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Saturday at St Therese in Kansas City, Missouri. Burial follows at the Resurrection Cemetery of Kansas City, Missouri.
