Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach has announced results of several lawsuits against major international companies.
Kobach says a coalition of attorneys general nationwide has led to a nearly $150 million settlement with Mercedes-Benz USA for essentially selling vehicles that circumvent laws by equipping software designed to fool devices tracking and optimizing emission controls during tests. Kansas will get $250,000 from that lawsuit; Kobach has not said how those funds will be used.
Kobach has also announced a settlement with Menards after a 10-state investigation into business practices during the COVID-19 pandemic and, specifically, Menards’ 11-percent rebate program. Kansas gets nearly $82,000 as Menards agrees to “clearly disclose limitations” of the program.
Kobach also says Kansas, along with 34 other states, has successfully reached a settlement with Hyundai and Kia over substandard anti-theft technology. The state gets over $71,000 for investigation costs.
