Traffic enforcement priorities are on New Year’s Eve activities, and with good reason, but the Kansas Highway Patrol has released its information from the recently-completed Christmas enforcement period.
When it comes to enforcement, DUI-related arrests, speed citations and warnings were all up significantly from the last two years. Troopers handled nearly 30 DUI arrests, up from 7 each the last two Christmas periods. Troopers also issued almost 770 speed citations and almost 900 speed warnings, both above the 2023-24 totals combined in those categories. Adult safety belt citations were also more than the 2023-24 totals.
Troopers did not have to handle any fatal DUI-related crashes or deaths for the third straight year.
The reporting period went from Christmas Eve to this past Sunday.
Law enforcement agencies at all levels will be out and about in force Wednesday night in an effort to both find drunk, impaired or distracted drivers and to deter such activity.
