The New Year is here and it was a great start for eight local non-profits thanks to a cooperative event between two local businesses.
Bourbon Cowboy and 627 Event Space teamed up to host a special balloon drop on New Year’s Eve, a tradition that Bourbon has hosted for several years, with a new twist. In addition to balloons filled with cash for visitors, eight balloons had a special $50 certificate, which, once turned in to Bourbon staff, became a donation to one of eight local non-profit organizations chosen by Bourbon and 627 staff.
The donation was made in the name of the individual who found the certificate with Ashley Kopecky of 627 Event Space, saying the event was a great demonstration of charity and unity among local businesses.
Kopecky also says this was the perfect time to debut this event, saying a little more giving is a great way to end the holiday season.
Kopecky and Bourbon Cowboy owner Susan Brinkman both stated that they hope the event will serve as a snowball event for philanthropy over the course of the new year and the balloon drop becomes a regular event that grows year after with Kopecky saying she would like to see it become an event that extends beyond just the holiday season.
The eight non-profits that benefited from the balloon drop were:
Friends of the Emporia Public Library
Street Cats Club
Kansas Talking Books
Southwick House
Shiloh House
The Emporia Senior Center
Bloom House Youth Services
Beacon For Hope Suicide Prevention
