A company building a broadband fiber network in Lyon and Osage counties is receiving over $2.5 million in state grants for the work ahead.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly on Wednesday announced ITC Broadband Operating LLC received three grants as part of the Kansas Broadband Acceleration program. The Lyon County grant is for $1.1 million to support nearly 100 homes and businesses. The other two grants totaling almost $1.7 million go to work in Osage County involving over 350 homes and businesses.
ITC serves rural areas in several states under the Highline brand. In Kansas, Highline already covers much of Lyon County and part of north-central Osage County.
The state is granting $6.7 million in total, with dollar-for-dollar matches through private and local investment. The program was developed in 2020 and is a 10-year, $85 million venture to expand internet access across Kansas.
