Workers’ compensation was the main focus of Lyon County Commissioners when they convened for their first meeting of 2026 Friday.
As part of their agenda, commissioners approved an invoice from KWORCC for the 2026 estimated workers’ compensation premiums totaling more than $262,600. According to Human Resources Director Alicia Rumold, 2025 was a “tough year” for the county from a workers’ comp perspective, which will play a role in calculations for the following year.
Rumold explains that when it comes to workers’ comp, increases are extremely common, saying, “It never goes down.”
That said, Rumold tells KVOE News they are in a good position when it comes to who is handling their workers’ compensation, saying KWORCC is the “Best bang for your buck.” When asked why that is, Rumold says they are very employee-oriented and efficient in response.
In separate business Friday, commissioners approved waiving the GAAP requirements for 2026 and held one executive session for a pair of employee evaluations.
Commissioners were originally set to consider approving participation in the state’s rural opportunity zone program; however, the item was removed from the agenda.
County Commissioners will reconvene for their regular action meeting Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
