Area residents are mourning the passing of two people with distinctive careers in different pathways.
Former Emporia State professor Dick Keller passed away Dec. 7 at the age of 82. After growing up in Clark County and degrees from Purdue, Ball State and Northern Illinois, Keller became a professor of English at Emporia State in 1970, eventually serving as department chair, Faculty Assembly chair in Liberal Arts & Sciences and athletics representative. He also served as editor for several academic journals and worked with Emporia State’s Center for Great Plains Studies.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am Jan. 10 at St Marks Lutheran Church.
Also, longtime Deputy County Clerk Lanny Linebarger passed away Dec. 28 at age 78.
Linebarger served in the Lyon County Clerk’s Office for 24 years. Before that, she spent 25 years working at different local banks, including ESB Financial, Emporia State Federal Credit Union and Lyon County State Bank.
Visitation will be March 23, with a memorial service March 24 at First United Methodist Church.
