The American Red Cross is seeking donors for a pair of blood drives in Emporia this week.
Blood drives are being held Monday and Tuesday at the Emporia Presbyterian Church West Campus, with plenty of openings still available, according to Red Cross Spokesperson Susan Faler, who says, “Typical holiday issues are causing a decline in blood donations.”
For Monday’s drive, which runs from noon to 6 pm, 32 whole blood appointments are available, while Tuesday’s drive, which runs from 8 am to 2 pm, has 22 open whole blood and 10 power red appointments. Walk-ins, as always, are welcome; however, Faler says appointments are encouraged.
In addition to the drives Monday and Tuesday, Emporia High School’s student council will be hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, January 14th, inside the former Maurices space at Flint Hills Mall. Jax Cole of EHS Student Council says the drive has 63 total appointments available, 28 of which have been filled as of Monday morning.
This will be the third student council-led blood drive of the current school year, with the first events seeing great success, according to Cole.
Cole adds that while they have seen a lot of success in addressing the need for blood through the student-led drives, the need is and always will be great, making donations vitally important.
The blood drive will run from 10 am to 5 pm. To schedule appointments or for more information on any and all upcoming blood drives, visit Redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
