Memorial services are coming next weekend for longtime community servant and champion Evora Wheeler.
Services will be held Saturday, January 17th at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building. The time for the services has yet to be announced.
Wheeler passed away last Friday at the age of 94 and is remembered for her tireless community service to Emporia through a variety of ways including contributing her famous baked goods to countless charitable endeavors. Wheeler also served the community as a member of the Emporia City Commission from 1987 to 1991 including one year as Mayor and was a past member of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Wheeler’s efforts within the community were recognized on many occasions including in 2023 when she received the Paul Harris Fellow honor from the Emporia Rotary Club and in 2024 when she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the David Traylor Zoo.
