Madison split with host Olpe Tuesday in the first Area Game of the Week of 2026
Olpe started off the new year with a 46-30 victory over Madison in the girls contest.
The Eagles led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter, with Lilly Skalsky scoring seven in the frame. Olpe would find themselves with a three point halftime lead, 22-19. The third quarter saw Olpe distance themselves from Madison, 37-22 at the end of the quarter, much in part to shots from beyond the arc starting to fall for Olpe. The Eagles were 3/6 from long distance in the frame, while Madison only shot 1/4 from the field in the third.
Olpe was led in scoring by Kayla Steinke with 16 points, Skalsky finished the night with 11 points. Caylin Luthi led Madison with 13 points.
The Eagles improve to 7-1 (3-0) while Madison drops to 4-4 (1-2)
In the nightcap, Madison boys overcame a 12 point second half deficit to hand Olpe their first loss of the season 49-46.
Olpe held a 15-10 end of the first quarter lead, then 24-18 lead at the midgame break. The Eagles would start the second half with momentum in the first four minutes of play, building their lead to 32-20. Madison would get a spark to their offense behind a three pointer by Javier Alba Mendez that would start a 14-1 rally to end the quarter with Madison holding a 34-33 lead heading into the fourth.
Both teams would trade blows throughout the fourth quarter, with Olpe having a tying three at the buzzer not fall home.
Madison improves to 7-1 on the season, and was led in scoring by Octavian Dean with 18 points, Brayden Grimmett with 12 (10 in 4th quarter) and Mendez with 11.
Olpe was led in scoring by Brayden Lienemann with 16.
